Treasure Island - Cat proofing the bedroom closet

For some strange reason my cats get day and night mixed up.

They are sound asleep on the couch during the day and at night they are really really active.

At least twice a week they decide that it is so much fun to play in my closet and get as much cloth of the hangers as you possibly can.

Yes, I have tried “the keep the cat away spray" and I have tried my own creating of  “Cat be gone”,

I have tried keeping them out of the bedroom and on goes the list but nothing helps.

Now I am changing hangers. From the normal slippery plastic ones to the velvety none slip once. I hope this makes it too difficult for them and they find another game. I hope your cats behave better than mine.

How about just closing the closet door?  My dog loves to get into the bathroom while I am out and I just have to make sure to close the door before leaving the apartment, to keep her out of mischief and locking herself in the bathroom!

Anne, our cats make a beeline for the closet whenever we open the door (we have to make sure they're out before we shut the door again!).  I use the wooden hangars and they've never shown any interest in them, thankfully!

Anne - our cat also "perks up" as we're going to bed....sleeps by the sliding glass door all day, and by night, becomes a loud, clumsy terror!  And she's almost 16, so she's no kitten....!  Hopefully your hanger plan works for yours!

Jennifer, the closet doors are closed ALL the time but I have " sliding swing" doors. Pictures them as very light weight sliding doors that do not have a track on the bottom. I can slide them with my pinky finger and I can also push and pull them inside and outside with my pinky finger. It is fun for my cats to open and close this doors.

Anne - I hope they don't tear any of the clothing if it doesn't easily slide off of the hangers. Perhaps putting something in front of the door so it won't open as easily or to block access.
