Ladies Fishing Tournament, held June 24th and 26th, 2010. Our mission is to involve more
women in the wonderful sport of fishing with a fun and competitive atmosphere while raising
awareness and supporting the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
Our Captain's Party Thursday, June 24th is held at Madeira Beach Municipal Marina. This is a
FUN evening for both women and men to attend. There will be great food and drinks, all types
of vendors, registration of anglers and a spectacular raffle.
"This tournament is for all types of anglers, experience is not required but a good time is!
The women participating can't wait to get on the water and catch fish and the men can't wait
to take their ladies out and put them on fish" says tournament director, Jill Foraker. Men are
allowed to captain/run a boat and, or be a crew member but not allowed to catch any fish.
Species range from Flounder and Spanish Mackerel to Grouper and Amberjack, so whether
you prefer inshore or offshore fishing this is an event everyone can take part in. Fishing and
weigh in are held Saturday, June 26th at Madeira Beach Marina. For more information on the

Pirates Plan to Pillage John's Pass Village and Prepare for Hurricane Season at The 9th Annual John Levique Pirate Days inMadeira Beach.

MADEIRA BEACH/TREASURE ISLAND, FL--- Pirates Plan to Pillage John's Pass Village and Prepare for Hurricane Season at The Ninth Annual John Levique Pirate Days.  The event celebrates Leveque's discovery of the John's Pass waterway following the Great Gale of ‘48 and prepares its residents for hurricane season, while raising funds for The Florida Fisherman Lost at Sea Memorial Fund on June 11th through 13th, 2010. The John's Pass Village Association will host a variety of events throughout the weekend including a Pirate's Ball, pirate sea battle and boat parade, a street parade, a family treasure hunt, adults and children's costume contests, and more.  The event will also include various pirate themed merchandise, food and beverage vendors, along with an abundance of performers.  Although admission to the event is free, other proceeds will be donated to the Florida Fisherman Lost at Sea Memorial Fund.  

The Ninth Annual Pirates Ball will take place at The Holiday Isles Elks Lodge# 1912, on Friday June 11th, from 7 pm to 11pm. The planning committee is very excited about the brand new scenic and spacious venue! This adult only adventure and fundraiser will feature Piratatical entertainment by The Brigands, a music minded group from New York who perform Sea Shanties and nautical tunes along with lore and fact from the Golden Age of Piracy. The adults costume contest will be judged at 10 pm, with the winners receiving prizes valued at thousands of dollars donated by area merchants. Scores of fabulous gifts have been collected for the silent auction which opens at 7 pm and closes at 10:30 pm. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Florida Fisherman Lost at Sea Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization whose goal is to build a proper memorial to honor the hundreds of courageous souls that have vanished at sea. The John Levique weekend events kick off at 10 am on Saturday, June 12th.  FREE Parking at Madeira Beach Fundamental School will alleviate the congestion in John's Pass Village and a FREE shuttle from the school to the Village will be provided by St. Pete Duck Tours and the Parrots of the Caribbean amphibious boat. Hop off the shuttle at the main entrance to Village Boulevard and inspect the nautical and pirate themed Vendors and the Hurricane Expo sponsored by Lowes with loads of give-a-ways! Main stage performances by The Brigands, Rusty Cutlass, Captain's of The Devils Triangle, Pirate Tales, ARRR, Ink, Travelers Hold, Troupe Sahirnee, The Cincy Pirates and The Bawdy Boys are scheduled through out the weekend to entertain young and old. Food and Beverages will be available near the main stage, as well as even more hurricane expo give-a-ways. The Florida Blood Mobile will once again be on site saving lives and collecting Blood Donations. Generous donors who donate twice in two months will be entered into a drawing for a FREE Carnival Cruise! 

The Family Treasure Hunt begins at Del Sol on Saturday, June 12th, 10am to 6pm and continues 10am to 4pm on Sunday, June 13th. The Village Wide treasure hunt is by far, one of the events most popular activities. Families are given a map and a list of clues and are encouraged to dress in pirate garb. The goal is to find all of the spots on the treasure hunt in order to qualify for the grand prize drawing, valued at hundreds of dollars. Participating merchants have donated a gift item for the grand prize, and will provide a ‘trinket' for each family on the treasure hunt as proof that they have found their "spot". Treasure maps are limited to the first 500 families. All families who complete the hunt will be entered into the grand prize drawing, which will be held at Del Sol at 4:15 pm on Sunday, June 13th. Del Sol is located at 13011 Village Boulevard, Madeira Beach.

Additional Children's Activities include Mr. Monty's Toy emporium at Triangle Park.  Children of all ages will be entertained with crafts, face painting and pirate entertainers including ARRR, Ink, Travelers Hold, Troupe Sahirnee and Captain Tut's Pirate Parrots. Period wooden toys will also be available for purchase. Windworks sponsors The Children's Costume Contest that will take place at 4:15 pm on Saturday June 12th. All participants will receive a prize, with several larger prizes being awarded to the best of the best! Don't miss the Pirates Dunk Tank...Douse those daunting Pirates and watch them descend to the bottom of the tank!

The Boat Parade Committee has shanghaied ships from all ports to participate in this years Boat Parade and Sea Battle.  The pre-parade party begins at the Holiday Isles Elks Lodge at 10am on Saturday, June 12th.  The Flotilla will set sail at 11am and continue past Eleanor Island before it enters the battle zone and out-flanks its foes at High Noon at the Boardwalk.  There, the participants will engage in a ship invasion and sea battle with plenty of water pistols and black powder cannon!  Behind the scenes, judges will be searching for the best decorated boats. Later that night at 8 pm, an awards ceremony will be held at Hub's Raw Bar & Tavern awarding the most decorated and lively boats their Prizes.  Entertainment will be provided by Terry & The Pirates. Interested parties should attend the Captain's Party ...err Meeting...at Hub's Raw Bar & Tavern on Thursday June 10th at 6 pm, for details and judging numbers. The Street Parade will take place on Sunday, June 13th at 1 pm. A pre-parade Party will congregate at 11am at Gator's Café & Saloon on Treasure Island.  Area Businesses are invited to decorate their vehicles and enter the parade. The parade will leave Gators promptly at 1 pm and cross the new John's Pass Bridge, entering the Village at 129th Ave E.   Pirate ships, decorated vehicles and other specimens will travel onto John's Way, head east on Boardwalk Place, west on 129th then disperses at the entrance to Village Boulevard. The Pirates Pub Crawl is an adult's only adventure.  Tickets will include one FREE alcoholic beverage at each of the 11 participating Pubs (to date...) as well as a special edition Pub Crawl t-shirt, which will not be sold separately.  The Pub Crawl is leisurely and on going throughout the hours of the event. Each of the participating pubs will have entertainment, give-a-ways, and specials throughout the weekend. Pubs on board to date are the Bamboo Beach Bar & Grill, Cuban Paradise Cigar & Café, De Losa's Pizzeria, Don's Dock, Hub's Raw Bar & Tavern, Gators Café & Saloon, The Hut, Rock'n Coconut, The Pirates Doubloon, Sportsman's Saloon and Vino Florida.  A Limited number of Pub Crawl tickets are available for a $25 donation and may be purchased at the Pirates Ball on Friday night or at the Event Information booth on Saturday until sold out. A Rock The Dock Party will take place at Don's Dock featuring local talent, including High Tide Mirage, Sunrise Community Dancers, Scottie & Kyle, Thrown Alive, The Tiki Kings, Sun Drummers & Friends, Resinated, Unmotivated, Bleu Gravy, Steve Arvey, Laxalos & The Apaches, and The Rocking Chair Band.  This an awesome spot to watch both parades as well as the fantastic line up of performers scheduled for your enjoyment. Enjoy the view and the Music at Don's Dock on the East End of the Boardwalk!

The West Coast Mutineers are the featured performance group.  They are a collection of specialized actors, actresses and re-enactors who design and rehearse their stunts for months before the show.  They specialize in recreating an actual scene such as something one may have seen in The Golden Age of Piracy. They bring period style encampments, authentic costuming and choreographed fight circles to the show each year. This year promises to be the "best year ever"!  Their scheduled performances include the infamous Fight Circle at The West Coast Mutineers Encampment taking place at 1:15 on Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday, The Bar Brawl at Hubs Tavern & Raw Bar takes place at 3:30 pm on both days, and NEW this year they will feature a Beach Brawl on the Beach near Hubbard's Marina taking place at 4:30 pm each day.  The Beach Brawl promises to blow everyone away with the piratechnologoy, they have created to pull this one off! The Best view for the Bar and Beach Brawls will be from the West end of the Boardwalk overlooking John's Pass.  During the Fight Circle, and while taking a break from their vigorous routine, patrons can visit these talented performers at the West Coast Mutineers Encampment on the North End of Village Boulevard.

The show ends at dusk on Saturday with a spectacular Fire Show performed by Bohemian Fire.  Bohemian Fire is a unique group of Fire Performers who provide a high quality routine, specializing in Fire with all measures of fiery tools including fans, Hula Hoops, swords, ropes, and whips, as well as Fire eating and Fire Breathing.  Onlookers are invited to be amazed at dusk on Saturday at the West Coast Mutineers Encampment.   On Sunday, the show will close with a traditional Pub Sing at 5 pm on the Main Stage near the Duck Boat Shuttle.  The Pub sing brings together all of the entertainers who have performed throughout the weekend, so fans can hear them one last time until the following year!  The last shuttle sets sail at 6:30 pm, so don't miss the boat!

I moved 5000 miles to live in Florida, to be in the sun, to listen to the waves, to swim in the Gulf ....

Now that I am here I often forget to appreciate the beauty we have. Not today. I met with a friend at 8.30 this morning and we walked on the beach for an hour and a half and then went to breakfast at South Beach. It was a great way to start a Sunday morning and a good reminder why I am here. The water was very calm, the Pelicans and seagulls were out, people were fishing at the beach, it was just beautiful, relaxing and gave me a lot of energy. I just love Florida.

Being a Realtor in Florida, Saint Petersburg

Being a Realtor can be challenging. Just a few things that happend today.

We have an approved Short Sale and needed to talk to the bank today. Long story short, the ONLY person at the bank that we can talk to and that has the file is "Not in the office till July 1^st. Today is June 3^rd.

I had to contact another agent today because my buyer wants to see her listing. Well tough luck, the agent's phone numbers are all disconnected.

I am trying to review a unit in Seminole isle since 5/5/09. Realtor had told me that the unit isn't available for showing right this moment but call back in a few days. By now 11 phone calls later it is June 3^rd and I still have not seen the unit because it still is NOT available to show.

Here is a pleasant surprise. I just called on a Short sale and 5^th 3^rd Bank told me that their turnaround time between receiving the offer and countering / accepting the offer is about 2 weeks.

Put it in your Calendar. This is a great event and thing to do here in Madeira Beach Fl.

It might be different from state to state, but here in Florida Saint Petersburg we have to look at this from a couple of different angles. The seller and owner of the house and condo that is for sale, the buyer, both Realtors and the bank. Everybody involved in a short sale situation has a different motivation and looks differently at a short sale or pre foreclosure situation. The seller who has most likely pay 20 or 30 or 40 even 50 % more for the house a few years ago, will want to break even or get as close as he can.

The buyer wants the best deal in town and buy it way under market value. The banks want to keep their loss as low as possible. The listing short sale Realtor is on the seller's site but also knows that the house or condo has to be price "fair" or the seller will not receive any offers. The selling short sale real estate agent is on the buyer's site but knows that if the offer is too low, the bank will not accept it.

It all comes down to the BPO (Brokers price opinion) done by a Florida licensed Real Estate agent or Realtor (hopefully from the Saint Petersburg area)  that is NOT involved in the sale and he or she is hired by the bank or the appraiser that is also hired by the bank. Whatever value they come up with is what the bank goes by. In my experience, the banks are a little negotiable on that price value. Let me give you an example.

If the appraisal comes back with $100,000 home value, the banks might try to get $120,000 but they might also be willing to go down to $80,000  If the fair market value on a short sale is $100,000 the bank most likely will not take $60,000 for it. They might as well start foreclosure procedure and sell it as bank owned.

Madeira beach had their Seafood festival again and this time Captain Brian Spaeth, a native Floridian from Madeira beach, supplied the  StoneCrabs.

Sunday afternoon in Madeira beach Florida having a glass of white wine and eating Stone crab.  I love the annual seafood festival in Madeira beach, but this time they outdid themselves. It was a wonderful event, the weather was great and lots of people showed up.

As usual you have entertainment and a lot of food to choose from. I am a "picky" eater, so all this fried food is not really my deal, but this year I had a wonderful surprise, fresh right off the boat stone crab. Captain Brian Spaeth and the Gulf Partnership for marine fisheries had a crab stand at the seafood festival and there Stone crab was just awesome. Sweet and juicy and. . . . .

I love Stone crab!  I also had a chance to talk to Brian Spaeth for a while and I was fascinated and all the thinks that are involved in the Stone crab business. He has been out on his Stone crab boat a few times since the season opened on Oct. 15^th and he is bringing in Stone crabs each time. . It was great so see the enthusiasm that this young Captain has and it is great to see that it is a local business right here in Madeira beach that gets all the credit.

It is this time of the year again, the dates are all set, we will have our Christmas Boat parade here in Madeira a Beach Florida on Dec, 13th at 7 pm  The parade starts at our famous John's Pass Village and will go all the way to the canal north of City Hall. This might be a great place to watch it, right behind the library where the ball park is, or at  Tom Stuart Causeway Bridge.

Madeira beach Florida direct water front condo, the Bellarte in Tampabay

This 3 building complex is one of the newest in Madeira beach. Direct Gulf front, sit right on the sand and each condo has beautiful views onto the beach and sunset. There are a few condos for sale in the Bellarte, right now and the prices have been drastically reduced by $700,000 in some cases. The thing I love most about the Bellarte complex is not only the great location but also the fact that it has only one unit per floor. It does not feel like a condo at all. All units have a private elevator access. The condos here at Bellarte also feature an air-conditioned two car garage. Altogether there are 17 units between the three buildings. All of them have access to the clubhouse and the heated water front pool, a fitness centre and a dry sauna, spa and relaxing pool deck right on the Gulf of Mexico here in Madeira beach. With nearly 3500 heated square feet and three balconies, the units have a nice and open feeling to it, the kitchen is state of the art. Bellarte is a great addition to the Madeira beach water front real estate.

So many places to go, so much to do. If you visit Madeira beach, here in Florida, you have to go to Johns Pass. 

Right now "Bubba Gump Shrimp" is THE place to go in Madeira beach. It opened mid July and since the first day this place is packed. The food is great, the service is very friendly and you can spend a fun night. It is in Johns Pass, right were the bridge is on top of the parking garage. If you like the more local taste, go to Waltz, an awesome very unique seafood restaurant at the east end of Johns Pass. It is owned and operated by a local couple and you will not only find the freshest fish on the menu, but you will also get a "taste" of the local people in Madeira Beach.

The HUT is another place on Johns Pass, it is so cool. The place is big, has a huge bar and again that is where the locals meet for happy hour and it has a nice sitting area with regular tables. The menu is small and not too exciting but good old American food with fair prices and a great atmosphere.

You can also find a nice Pizza place on Johns Pass, I believe the name is "Della Rosa" or something like that. You can not miss it, it sits right on the corner where you go up to the board walk.

On the north end of Johns Pass we have the "Bamboo Beer Garden" unfortunately it is closed right now but they are renovating it at the moment, so everybody is excited and we are all looking forward to the opening. Besides all the bars and restaurant, Johns Pass offers a lot of activities. You can rent a jet ski or a boat, go on a fishing trip on take a dolphin watching cruise. Johns Pass is a great place to spend an evening or a whole day. This rustic little "tourist attraction" has so much to offer. If you are visiting St. Petersburg, you have to come and spend some time here. Johns Pass is right on the water next to the bridge that leads to Madeira beach from Treasure Island.              

                History tells us that Johns Pass was created in 1848 when a hurricane hit the west coast and cut a Pass into the land. There are some different version but when you live here it is pretty clear the name Johns Pass comes from an old Pirate by the name of John Levique who first discovered the new opening. So, actually Johns Pass was first. The city of Madeira beach was incorporated in 1947.
