PETE BEACH, FL:  The St. Pete Beach Recreation Division and the Friends of St. Pete Beach civic group are excited to bring back the very popular “Music in the Afternoon” event, free and open to all.  The events are scheduled from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sundays, February 12th, March 18th, April 15th, and May 20th at the St. Pete Beach Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive.  This casual afternoon tea is a nifty event for those over fifty and will feature light refreshments and plenty of dancing and socializing to the music of  Lew Barrows and The Rhythm Kings.  Those interested in attending are asked to please pre-register by calling 727-363-9245.

Holiday Break Kids’ Camps in St Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach FL  The kids are out of school for the holidays but you have to work. Not sure what to do?  Sign the kids up for St. Pete Beach’s Holiday Camps.  There are two different camp sessions open to kids in grades 1^st through 5^th.  Session I runs from Monday, December 19^th to Friday, December 23^rd and Session II runs from Tuesday, December 27^th to Friday, December 30^th.  Camp runs from 7:30am to 5:30pm daily except for Friday the 23^rd when camp ends at 12:30pm.  Children will participate in gym games, arts and crafts, park play and a field trip each week.  All campers enrolled on Wednesday, December 21^st will attend our very special “Breakfast with Santa” event at no extra charge.  Cost for the camp is $100/week or $30/day for St. Pete Beach Residents, $150/week or $50/day for non-residents.  Enrollment is limited so call us at 363-9245 or drop by the Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, to reserve your child’s spot. Holiday Break Kids’ Camps in St Pete Beach

St Pete beach offers lifeguard certification classes

St. Pete Beach, FL:   Want to be prepared to get an awesome job next summer?  Become a Certified Lifeguard.  The St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center will be offering its Lifeguard Certification Course this December.  Students must be at least 15 years old and complete a pre-course swimming and diving test.  Classes will be held December 19^th through the 22^nd from 8:30am to 4:30pm.  The class fee is $125.00 for residents and $150.00 for non-residents, books not included.  Classes are located at the St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, and all interested participants can stop by to register in person.   Reserve your space now.  Contact the pool at 363-9264 for more information. 

St. Pete Beach Seeking Players for

45+ Basketball League

St. Pete Beach, FL:  The St. Pete Beach Community Center is seeking teams for the new Men’s’ 45+ Basketball League that will launch this Fall.  Games will be played on Wednesday nights in the indoor gymnasium at the Community Center & Aquatic Complex, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive.  Game times are 6:45, 7:45 or 8:45 depending on weekly schedule.  If you have a team of men ages 45 and up who would like to register for this fun, lightly-competitive league, call the Recreation Division at 363-9245 for more information.  The season will begin when a minimum of four teams are registered.

CHILDREN’S EGG “HAUNT” IS A HALLOWEEN FAVORITE!

ST. PETE BEACH, FL:   The City of St. Pete Beach is offering kids of all ages a ghoulish good time with its second annual Halloween Egg “Haunt” on Saturday, October 15th.  This awesome event to get you in the Halloween spirit begins at 11:00am at the St. Pete Beach Pool, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive.  Children will swim and dive hunting for black and orange eggs in the pool, and then trick or treat around the pool deck.  Participants can stay and play in the pool and on the water slides until 3:00pm.  Admission is just $3.00 per person.  For more information contact the St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center at 363-9264. St. Pete Beach Halloween event 2011

 St. Pete Beach, FL:  The St. Pete Beach Community Center announces the return of its Tutoring and Sport Technique program for the 2011-2012 school year.  The program offers youth in grades 1^st through 5^th safe transportation to an afterschool program that combines homework help with socializing and active play.  The program runs each school day with Tutoring and homework help from 3:00 to 4:30pm and Sport Technique from 4:30 to 6:00pm.  The program picks up students from Azalea and Pasadena Fundamental Elementary Schools but students from any other school are welcome to be dropped off.  Each program is $20/week for St. Pete Beach residents and $25/week for non-residents; children can enroll in one or both programs weekly.   Registration is going on now, come by the Recreation office at 7701 Boca Ciega Drive or call 363-9245 to enroll today.

Ouch, Ouch Ouch or better known as Stand up Paddle boarding in Treasure Island.

I went Stand up paddle boarding for the first time tonight. I am hurting!!!  I know I won’t be able to move a single muscle in the morning.

I wanted to try this new Sport because every time I see a Paddle boarder it looks so peaceful and relaxing and easy, just wonderful. Well I wanted this feeling too SOOOOOOOOOO of I go Paddle boarding.

The class was supposed to meet at the Blind Pass bridge at 6 pm. Turned out it was just me and another woman and the instructor.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate long instructions and I am not very patient but 3 minutes and off  you go guys…………… that is a little short.

Anyway Cathy and I had a good time and we paddled along and along and along. I all of a sudden we realized that we were about 4 times farther out than we were supposed to go and we finally went back (against the current) Paddle boarding is a great exercise and I will do it again but do NOT be fooled about the peaceful, easy going look, IT IS HARD WORK !!!

I am not a coupon person, I do not look for them in newspapers, do not cut them out or do not open my mail with solicitation BUT this Groupon deals are really great. The savings are huge and it is stuff that I really use. One of my favorite restaurants in St. Pete had a 50% off deal the other day; I bought a facial for 60% off and Belly dance classes in downtown St. Pete for 70% off. Right now the Café Vienna, the European restaurant in St. Petersburg has a 50% off deal on their food. I just checked and 635 coupons were already sold. I do not think that the owners expected that many sales. Love when they have the clock ticking and show you how many hours you have left to buy this deal.

What are you doing on Saturday July 2^nd?

Beer, music, food and fun the Coliseum, 535 4th Ave. N. in downtown St. Petersburg starting at  5 p.m.  This will be a fun event. This is going to be a long weekend. This year our 4^th of July weekend here in St Petersburg starts off with the monthly First Friday celebration in downtown St. Petersburg on Central Ave. between 2nd & 3rd St. at  5:30 to 10 p.m. Get downtown and get down with the fun. Great music from Al Chisholm and the On Que Players. After that you can go on exploring downtown by night. St. Petersburg, first Friday downtown.

St. Pete Beach, boating classes.

USCG Safe Boating Program. 

This is one of the fun but very useful classes that you do not find too often. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 78 has a 13-week continuous Safe Boating program every Tuesday in St Pete Beach at  7:30 p.m. at the  Warren Webster Community Center, 1500 Pass-a-Grille Way, St. Pete Beach.

You can start at your convenience. At the first day, come at 7 p.m. to register. You can begin any Tuesday and finish 13 weeks later or take up to two years to finish whatever fits your schedule. June program includes: "Powering Your Boat" June 14,     "Knots" June 21, and    "Weather" June 28.

Starts at 6 pm on Friday the 24^th 2011 till about 10 pm . You will enjoy this creative night with lots of local artists, crafts, foods, drinks, music and just being outdoors to see the beautiful sunset colors. Corey Ave is a unique location in St. Pete Beach with restaurants and shops and bars and a theatre. In 1937 Corey Ave was dedicated to become the business district on St. Pete Beach.  Today you find stores like Button and Bangles, the Shell store, Simply perfect, Swigwam bar, Corey corners Antiques and collectibles Vincent William gallery, The wine shop and many more.
